The LEGO® Experience Tour at the Fall Pecan Street Festival!

Posted by Matt Ryan, Oct 7th, 2011 at 05:00PM

Austin, Texas was a destination we had been looking forward to for the entire trip. Everyone we met had nothing but wonderful things to say about the city and I must say that it certainly lived up to the hype. We visited the Fall Pecan Street Festival and there was great music everywhere. The people of Austin were so friendly and excited that it really made us feel welcome! We were so busy the whole time at our event that the time really flew by.

We expected some creative people to come out and join us and they certainly did. We had an amazing turn out for both days. The kids and parents worked hard to put together some extremely interesting stuff in the Construction Site. The display table was constantly full of ever changing constructions and evolving buildings. It was incredible to check in on the display table to see what cool things had been added to the already bustling city.

The Challenge zone was one of our most popular areas. We had some of the most fun in the Challenge zone we had all tour. The crowd was young and they appreciated some of the guided builds. The tutorials didn’t stop them from making their creations their own. They made some fantastically elaborate boats, planes, animals, and all sorts of stuff just from our basic builds.

We’re sad that this was our last city but the tour must come to an end eventually. I’m glad that we got to finish with a bang. Austin was so much fun it was hard to leave. Unfortunately, The LEGO Experience tour is coming to an end and it was hard for us to tell our newly made friends in Austin farewell!

The LEGO® Experience Tour at Albuquerque!

Posted by Matt Ryan, Sep 22, 2011 at 05:00PM

Albuquerque was tons of fun for all of us on the tour! None of us had been to the state of New Mexico so we were excited to experience something different. We had a blast checking out what Albuquerque had to offer and we ate some great food and met some even better people.

The weather was great, but boy did it get hot out sometimes. People came from all over the New Mexico State Fair to check us out, not knowing how much fun they were going to have. Time really does fly when your having fun as many families stayed for quite a while longer than they expected! One of the most popular parts about The LEGO Experience Tour are the tutorial build lessons in our Challenge Zone Tent. All 6 of our LEGO staff are happy to teach you how to build all sorts of creations. We created many cool things with everyone at the fair. We even had families of alligators and penguins making homes together, you couldn’t find that anywhere else but at The LEGO Experience Tour.

The DUPLO tent was always full of little builders with big imaginations the entire weekend, which is wonderful to see. One of the most rewarding things is to help a child figure out how to build with DUPLO bricks. The look on a child’s face when they ‘get it’ and begin putting bricks together is always an awesome experience. We had plenty of that in Albuquerque since the DUPLO tent was so popular!

With as much fun as had in Albuquerque we must move on to our 14th and final stop of the tour. We are off to Austin, Texas for the Fall Pecan Street Festival. We’re finishing up our tour and it’s hard to tell where the time has gone! We’ve been having so much fun it’s tough to remember that it’s coming to an end. We still have one more stop though and we want to make the most of it! Austin here we come!

The LEGO® Experience Tour at The Utah State Fair!

Posted by Matt Ryan, Sep 14, 2011 at 05:00PM

This week The LEGO Experience Tour came to the Utah State Fair. Salt Lake City sure was a lot of fun, and it was so nice to see everyone come out for a great weekend! We couldn’t have asked for better weather and the crowds at the fair were full of wonderful and creative people. The scenery around the festival was gorgeous. We were lucky to have some of the largest crowds we’ve had all tour at the Utah State Fair. Our tents were consistently filled with the young and young at heart building away and making some impressive creations. We had many families tell us that they had come to the fair just to see us! We’re flattered by this of course but they should know that we came to the fair just to see them too!

With so much to do at the LEGO Experience Tour it is hard to choose just one activity, but luckily we have something for kids of all ages. One of our more popular tents this past weekend was our DUPLO Experience tent. This tent is all about those builders with little hands but big imaginations. In the DUPLO Experience kids can build whatever they want, from an airplane to a petting zoo, DUPLO is perfect for those young builders that are just getting started. With hundreds of bricks at their disposal there is no shortage of fun in the DUPLO Experience tent but sometimes you just got to get up and dance! Our DUPLO Jams soundtrack, which was playing all weekend long, inspired some of our younger visitors to not only build some fun creations but also to bust out some of their dance moves.

The crowds in Utah were really fun loving and had some superb builders but unfortunately we must move on to the next city. We are off to Albuquerque, New Mexico for the New Mexico State Fair and we can’t wait to see what it’s like! Salt Lake City was so much fun that we’re excited to see what else this beautiful region has to see and do!

The LEGO® Experience Tour at The Taste of Colorado!

Posted by Matt Ryan, Sep 8, 2011 at 05:00PM

Driving through the Rocky Mountains, surrounded by all the beautiful scenery, makes me very jealous that the people of Colorado get to see this view every day! The gorgeous colors of the area brought a lot of inspiration to the builders in Colorado because their creations were thoroughly impressive. Denver is a wonderful city filled with great food and even greater people as we came to learn.

The Taste of Colorado festival was our destination and the delicious smells filling the air were fantastic! We had a number of challenges that were based around building your food and some of them got me pretty hungry. The people in Denver were great at working together and creating some delicious looking creations from scratch. Another game we like to play with everyone that comes to visit the LEGO Experience Tour is a game we like to call “Can You Find It?” A game where we ask everyone to point out a specific piece in our LEGO Brickscapes made by Professional Master Model Builders. The piece could be as simple as a certain LEGO mini-figure, or as complex as a miniature replica our LEGO shark model. We tried pulling out all the stops with this crowd but needless to say, Colorado has some very sharp eyes.

This event in Denver was by far the most populated. We had almost twice the amount of builders under our tents than at any other event! We saw some stellar looking cars in the raceway and some towering structures in our construction site. In fact, we saw so many cool creations throughout the day it’s hard to pick which buildings took the spotlight!

We were lucky to have such beautiful weather for almost the entire event and we met some very interesting and enthusiastic people in Denver. Unfortunately, our event must come to an end. We wish we could spend more time in Denver but Salt Lake City, Utah is up next and we’re excited to see what they have to offer!

The LEGO® Experience Tour at Colorado State Fair!

Posted by Matt Ryan, Aug 31, 2011 at 05:00PM

Pueblo was our first stop in Colorado and it wasn’t hard to tell we were going to have a fantastic time in this city. Driving through the mountains to get to get to the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo was gorgeous! The vibrant colors and cool architecture was incredible. All of the amazing terrain got me thinking… would this inspire some truly creative builds at our event? I didn’t have to make it past the first day to give a resounding yes!

Colorado may be known for its natural beauty but it should also be known for its amazing builders and creative minds. Though Pueblo is a much more sprawling city than it is tall, the local LEGO maniacs built some awesome towers. We saw some of our largest collaborative projects yet in the Construction Site. We had a tower that touched the ceiling of our tent and was so structurally sound it barely swayed in the wind. Some builders made some visually stunning towers that others added to continuously throughout the day. We saw many of the same builders come back to admire the constantly evolving landscape of the Construction Site. Someone even added King Kong to one of the towers!

The LEGO raceway was popular as well. Those same impressive builders did not limit themselves to the Construction Site; we saw some of those same faces working on wondrous vehicles together. The builders were quite careful with their creations but the LEGO raceway is a place for the daring. When the cars inevitably crashed and shattered there was not a tear in sight. They just picked up the pieces and built an even cooler car to race next. It was fun to see and kept the raceway fresh and fun the whole day.

While we’d like to stay and play with the farm animals at the Colorado State Fair we must move on to see what else Colorado has to offer. We are off to that mile high city known as Denver, and we have heard nothing but good things. We are excited to see what the Taste of Colorado festival has to offer and if it’s half as good as what Pueblo offered we have every reason to be excited!

The LEGO® Experience Tour at Kansas City Air Festival!

Posted by Matt Ryan, Aug 24, 2011 at 05:00PM

For week 9 of the LEGO Experience Tour we were in Kansas City, MO at the Kansas City Aviation Expo and Air Show. The anticipation was built up all week as we prepared for the masses of people who not only were going to witness the excitement of high speed planes and stunning aerobatics, but also to have some building fun with us. The weekend started off a bit scary when a major storm rolled through Kansas City, but rain or shine the LEGO Experience Tour is always ready to have fun.

The Lego Raceway was by far the most popular part of the LEGO Experience Tour here in Kansas City. The fun, yet intense competition made for some heated races throughout the day. The racers in Kansas City paid such close attention to detail that the cars became increasingly elaborate. We saw some of the biggest and coolest cars we have seen all tour here in Kansas City. They were speeding down the track so fast that it was sometimes difficult to determine the winner! However, at the LEGO Experience Tour it is not about whether you win or lose but if you had fun while doing it. Of course everyone that came to visit us had a great time and that makes everyone a winner!

LEGO fans young and old, new and experienced showed up in Kansas City this weekend. We had so many builders stay with us for hours and work on some very impressive projects that stood in the Construction Site for just as long. It’s going to be some stiff competition to outdo Kansas City’s ingenuity and devotion to creative building, but I’m always surprised in each city we visit. We will miss Kansas City but we must move on to Pueblo, Colorado for the Colorado State Fair. It’s hard to express how excited we are about visiting colorful Colorado and seeing what amazing creations the people visiting the Colorado State Fair have to offer!

The LEGO® Experience Tour at Iowa State Fair!

Posted by Matt Ryan, Aug 22, 2011 at 05:00PM

This week the LEGO Experience Tour was at the Iowa State Fair, the largest fair in the whole USA! We have seen some huge and awesome fairs during our travels, but nothing even came close to Iowa. The fair slogan is 'Nothing Compares' and I have to say that from what we saw no fair did quite compare! We had so much fun seeing all the fantastic stuff there was to do and the people were also so excited to see us.

Some of the most fun structures that were built at the event site were at the Challenge Zone where we started doing a simple challenge that turned into one of the most popular at the event site. We asked builders to choose just twenty bricks and to lay them out on the table. We would give the contestants two minutes to complete an object of our choosing and they could only use those twenty bricks. Some of the creations were astounding! It seems that Iowans are quite clever and can make more out of less. Some of the creations looked like they took twenty minutes to make and not just twenty bricks!

We had non-stop fun in Iowa and we wish we could stay for more of the festivities, but there are more cities to see and more kids to build with! We’re waving goodbye to the Iowa Butter Cow and saying hello to Kansas City, Missouri. We can’t wait to see what Kansas City has to offer and what cool creations we will witness being built next weekend!

The LEGO® Experience Tour in Milwaukee, WI!

Posted by Matt Ryan, Aug 10, 2011 at 05:00PM

This week the LEGO Experience Tour 3.0 came to the Greater Milwaukee Air Show in Wisconsin. Milwaukee was amazing! We never knew that Wisconsin had such wonderful beaches and coincidentally that is exactly where we set up. Just like our previous week at the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival, we were able to set up right along the shores of Lake Michigan where many of the beach goers came over to play. Who knew that sandy bricks would be just as much fun as regular bricks? It was a wonderful experience for us and we were able to meet some truly incredible people in Milwaukee.

As the stunning aerobatics and loud jets roared overhead, underneath our LEGO Challenge Zone Tent the LEGO Raceway was often full to the brim with eager racers the entire day. My favorite part about the LEGO Experience Tour is that not only do you get to build awesome creations but you can also put them on display in our Construction Site for everyone to see. We had some racers that were so proud of their winning car that they made a pedestal to show off their first place racecar.

The sun was shining almost the entire weekend, but when dark clouds started to appear over Milwaukee we were a little worried the show was going to stop. However, a little bit of rain was not going to stop everyone at the Milwaukee Air Show from having fun with us. Another great thing about LEGO bricks is that they are waterproof so you can play with them rain or shine. We had so much fun hanging out and building with some of Milwaukee’s finest kids and we thank you for letting us experience your incredible town. Unfortunately, we must leave this cool city and continue to our next destination in Des Moines, Iowa where we plan to completely rock the socks off of the Iowa State Fair!

The LEGO® Experience Tour in Grand Haven, MI!

Posted by Matt Ryan, Aug 1, 2011 at 05:00PM

Grand Haven, Michigan has been one of the most fun events yet! We were nestled right by the water and got to watch boats wave to us all day while they sailed by and we played. Everyone was so friendly and people of all ages were willing to build. It was exciting to see how amazed many of the younger builders were when we helped them build some fantastic creations for the first time in our Construction Site Tent. On our first day some builders created a truly amazing river and a few large ships to go with it. In true Michigan style, our builders created some of the most unique and amazing cars we have seen yet on our journey.

The DUPLO tent was also full of great builders all day. There were many mothers and fathers that wanted to investigate what kind of cool stuff DUPLO has to offer. Some children had never touched a DUPLO brick in their life, but after just a few minutes they were building incredible structures. Even after the weeks we have been on the road it’s still surprising what a two-year-old can come up with by themselves. It brings smiles to our faces to see such young kids share pieces and cooperate to make something together. Not everyone knows that DUPLO bricks can actually be put together with regular LEGO pieces for double the fun!

We had way too much fun in Grand Haven and we would love to stay longer to enjoy the rest of the Coast Guard Festival, but Milwaukee is waiting for their chance to play! We’re off to Milwaukee now and we couldn’t be more ecstatic!

The LEGO® Experience Tour in Dayton, OH!

Posted by Matt Ryan, July 28, 2011 at 05:00PM

Dayton, OH was our very first air show on this years’ tour so we were super excited to watch the planes roll by and take their display locations. Our giant yellow LEGO truck is pretty big but it was nothing compared to some of the huge cargo planes! The entire LEGO Experience Tour event site could have easily fit inside one of them. The crowds were large and the heat was quite intense so many families were pleasantly surprised to find that our tents not only offered them shade from the hot sun but also had tons of fun activities for them. For both days of the air show our tents were completely packed and every table full of really awesome creations. I think there was something about being surrounded by such incredible planes that brought out some real creativity in Dayton.

The most popular activity in Dayton, Oh was by far the LEGO raceway. We had races going constantly throughout the day and many champions emerged. We had some of the most interesting and quickest cars yet here in Ohio! We witnessed some amazing teamwork from families and friends who worked together for hours to perfect their racecar. However, with the ever-increasing speed came some of the most spectacular crashes! I hate to say it but that is always my favorite part! The kids sifted through the rubble to quickly rebuild their car so they could race again. Some worked so quickly they would have put even the most seasoned pit crews to shame!

The LEGO challenge zone was popping in Ohio! We had friends and families lining up to participate in our building sessions and timed challenges. Sometimes people are nervous to approach the LEGO challenge zone because they feel they may be a bit rusty with their building skills. This was certainly not the case in Dayton! After watching a challenge or two, moms, dads, aunts and uncles, and even some grandparents were working feverishly in the challenge zone to build everything from their favorite planes to the longest bridges. We had a total blast with the folks in Dayton and we were ecstatic to admire the breath-taking aerobatics and speed of the stunt planes and helicopters at the air show with you!

The LEGO® Experience Tour at South Carolina Peach Festival!

Posted by Matt Ryan, July 25, 2011 at 05:00PM

This week we visited the South Carolina Peach festival in Gaffney, South Carolina. Gaffney is a real gem nestled in northern South Carolina and truly had great southern hospitality. We can’t thank you guys enough for letting us come to play. We couldn’t ask for a better time from a better host city. So many people let us know how much they were looking forward to visiting The LEGO Experience Tour site as they followed our blog while we continued our journey towards South Carolina. As we opened to the public, we watched, as each tent was flooded with hundreds of eager faces ready to build. Needless to say we were bordering on having too much fun…if that is even possible!

It isn’t hard to get people excited about building with LEGO bricks, but when we see people work together in the Construction Site adding to our LEGO City Brickscape model, that’s when we get excited. We debuted our new and improved Brickscape table with ample room for our builder’s creations and it certainly was taken advantage of! The Brickscape could barely be seen behind the collection of skyscrapers that continued to stretch higher into the tent. It was impressive to say the least. Each skyscraper built, big or small was incredibly intricate. Gaffney certainly has no shortage of imagination, however, to test their imaginations we have our LEGO Challenge Zone. Lots of families and friends crowded around the tent to watch the excitement and then joined in themselves. We were running challenges all day and some of the results were astounding! We were doing so many challenges and the builders were getting so good at completing the challenges that the crew was racking their brains to come up with some fresh new challenge ideas! Gaffney may be hard to beat in the imagination department! Although, I am consistently surprised by the ability of each crowd to thoroughly impress me with each passing city!

The LEGO® Experience Tour in Salem!

Posted by Matt Ryan, July 15, 2011 at 05:00PM

Salem, Virginia was a total blast! The people were fun and we were always greeted with a smile. Some sour weather on our first day did little to stop the festivities and word spread quickly through the fair that the LEGO Experience Tour was the place to be. The weather was much better after a short rain and the overcast sky was much appreciated by the fair goers. Families continued to roll through the entrance gate and straight to our welcome table all day, eager to learn about what was going on and where they could get a sticker and crown. I don’t think I can count how many jaws I saw drop as the kids heard our loudspeaker announcements. It felt fantastic to be told that we were making so many peoples’ days!

With each passing city it gets harder and harder to determine which has the most impressive builders! Here in Salem we had whole families working together in the Construction Site collaborating to make incredible creations. While it isn’t uncommon to see families building together in the Construction Site, Salem seemed to have an extremely impressive family bond around their LEGO creations. Many kids said they belonged to local LEGO clubs and built often with the help of their parents and siblings. The range of ages and backgrounds of the people we talk to never ceases to amaze us!

The LEGO Raceway was full to the brim as usual! There’s something about the competitive nature of racing that seems to bring out the kindness in some of these cities. We had many builders assisting one another and even trading pieces trying to build the fastest car. Salem is a really cool place and the range of builders who were not afraid to pick up some bricks and build reflected that youthful spark wonderfully. Unfortunately all good things must come to and end, but now its time for the LEGO Experience tour 2011 to head south for the South Carolina Peach Festival. Come check us out in downtown Gaffney, South Carolina July 15-16.

The LEGO® Experience Tour at the Spirit of America Festival!

Posted by Matt Ryan, July 7, 2011 at 05:00PM

Decatur has been a total blast for the whole crew! None of us have ever been to Alabama, but we’re all definitely considering making a returning visit in the future. The event was full of fun and friendly people from all over Alabama which made enduring the scorching heat much easier. Ignoring Alabama’s infamous heat was no easy task on its own, but when you’re having as much fun as we were… it was nothing!

Since the event site was adjacent to a water park we had many bathing suit clad builders in the Challenge Zone. This served well as fuel for ideas for some summer tutorials and challenges. We saw some awesome beach objects, summer sports creations, and water park rides that had us just about ready to jump into the pool ourselves! The DUPLO tent saw its fair share of summer fun as well. There were pools and tall diving boards to spare. It brought a smile to the crew’s faces to see some of the kids working together to make an American flag for the Fourth of July celebration.

Unfortunately, we were forced to close early on our last day in Decatur. Clouds rolled in so quickly we had little time to prepare, and when the weather picked up we had to make sure our event site didn’t blow away to our next stop in Salem, Virginia before we got there ourselves! It was humbling and heartwarming to see the festival goers come together to help us out and make sure we didn’t have our entire site blow away. Thank you Decatur, Alabama your kindness cannot be understated.

The LEGO® Experience Tour at the DC Battle of BBQ!

Posted by Matt Ryan, June 25, 2011 at 05:00PM

Today was the very first official event for our freshly minted team and it’s hard to describe the excitement among the crew before and during the event. Before we could even finish setting up, kids and parents were skirting the event site in anticipation. Right off the bat I could tell it was going to be a fun day. Children were filtering in more and more as news spread of our location and the sheer volume of fun we were having. Any nervousness or uneasiness that had accumulated before we opened quickly left the team as it became quite clear that we did not have to force fun on anyone, many of the challenges and activities we were directing took shape because of the kids involved in them.

Many of the kids who stopped by the event site to play had fairly little experience with LEGO products. However, some very experienced LEGO builders were scattered throughout the crowd and they were incredibly proud to share their creations with the crew and fellow builders. We had so many ridiculously cool creations we had to display them on top of the Brickscape when we ran out of room on the table! It was incredible to see some of the more experienced builders helping the less experienced builders. The new builders were happy to accept help from the Crew, but more often it was just better to guide them a bit and let the magic happen. It was wonderful to see the kids play together and cooperate with their build projects. Even parents would make new friends as they talked to one another as their children played. Seeing kids play together from all walks of life was inspiring to say the least.

The LEGO® Experience Tour at the New York State Fair!

Posted by Anastasia Bailoni, September 1, 2010 at 10:24AM

This weekend we were at the New York State Fair in Syracuse New York. This was by far one of the biggest state fairs we have been to! Our event site was very close to the cattle and horse barns, so it was always fun to see the cows and many different horses being paraded around so close to us, we even got to meet a few llamas!

I spent some time in the construction tent the last day of the fair, where I was able to meet so many different kids, who all loved to build everything from towers to flying boats. One young girl in particular had never really built anything by herself and she really wanted me to help her build a person riding a horse, since she had just come from a riding competition. We had so much fun deciding what color the horse was going to be, it ended up being multi colored. Other kids soon began to join in because of her excitement. This experience definitely made my weekend!

Next weekend we will be at the Maryland State Fair in Baltimore. We are so excited to go, all of the state fairs we have been to so far have been awesome!!

LEGO® Experience Tour hits the Pacific Northwest!

Posted by Alyson Euler, August 17, 2010 at 10:50AM

This weekend we were at the Nevada County Fair in Grass Valley, California. It was a great event... we even got an award for being the best site at the fair! While I was working in the Construction Experience, a little boy came up to me and asked me to help him build something. He had never played with LEGO bricks before and he didn't know what he wanted to build. I told him that we should start by grabbing some LEGO bricks and just build whatever comes to mind. We went to one of the bins and grabbed some bricks and put them together. I could tell that he was really focused on his creation, so I let him run with his imagination. He ended up finding some really cool pieces and making a "jet pack powered rocket". Later, his older brother came along and the two of them spent the next hour building together. They ended up building matching LEGO eye glasses! It was great to see the two brothers building together. Up next, the Hillsboro Air Show! Can't wait to see some cool airplanes and LEGO builds!

LEGO® Experience Tour in Seattle for SeaFair!

Posted by Alyson Euler, August 11, 2010 at 10:11AM

This weekend we were at the Seafair in Seattle and it definitely lived up to all the hype. Seafair is a huge air and water show, and plays host to the biggest Hydroplane race in the country. It was incredibly crowded, and our LEGO tents were constantly filled with kids of all ages and experience levels who seemed more interested in playing with LEGO bricks than watching the planes and boats!

One little girl, about 5 years old, looked really curious in the Construction Experience so I went up to her and asked her if she wanted to help me build something for the city. She was very eager, but said she had never played with the "small" LEGO bricks. She wanted to build a giraffe, so I began by showing her simply how to put the bricks together, and then giving her ideas on how to make it look like a giraffe. After about three bricks, she began saying that she could do it by herself. I backed away and watched her build and I could see her confidence build with each brick. She got really excited about her creation, and ended up making a "robot giraffe" complete with wheels as feet, and a door in its chest. It was incredible to see how quickly she picked up on building with LEGO bricks and really showed me why I love this job so much. I can't wait to help build LEGO creations with more kids and watch them grow at the Nevada County Fair next weekend!

LEGO® Experience tour stops at the Ohio State Fair!

Posted by Anastasia Bailoni, August 4, 2010 at 9:33AM

The next event on the tour was at the Ohio State Fair. The crew was excited for this fair because we had heard so many great things about it. After three days here, I can definitely tell you that the Ohio State Fair lived up to its billing. The people, food and overall atmosphere was great! One memory that specifically comes to mind when a young boy, who couldn't have been any older than seven was really into building things for our city in the Construction Experience tent. He was creating so many cool things that he was soon running out of ideas, that's when I suggested a pyramid and offered to build one with him.

After both of our pyramids went into the city and looked really awesome, he wanted to keep building more and more. After an hour or so we had over eight pyramids! No matter where I was on the event site, he would find me to show me the newest pyramid he had built for the city. I felt really happy that he wanted to show me everything he had built, when it was time to leave he even wanted a picture with me and his pyramids!! This is a part of the tour that I love, being able to connect with kids on a creative and more personal level, he even gave me a hug before he left!

After the Ohio State Fair, we'll be heading to an event called Thunder Over Michigan. This is our second Air Show while on tour, and if it's anything close to the Prairie Air Show, we're in for another great weekend!

LEGO® Experience Tour Attends the Prairie Air Show!

Posted by Anastasia Bailoni, July 28, 2010 at 9:22AM

This weekend we headed to Peoria, Illinois for the Prairie Air Show. This was our first air show of the tour and we were all very excited too see the airplanes and jets! We had all of our tents set up right on the runway, so we were surrounded by huge cargo planes and fighter jets. It was great to see so many families coming to visit our event, I would glance over to the welcome tent every now and then to see kids running over, charged with excitement, because their favorite toy - LEGO bricks - was at the air show.

I spent a lot of time running the challenges in the Family Challenge Experience tent, and by far the favorite game of the weekend was to see who could be the tallest tower in two minutes. So far the tallest tower record is set at 40 inches, made by a family local to Peoria, who visit the air show every year.

I loved being able to talk with all the kids about their favorite LEGO creations they had built at home and at the event. The most popular build of the weekend was definitely some sort of cool airplane, from fighter jets to helicopters and even passenger planes. What made this so exciting was that the fighter jets and planes were flying above us while the kids were building them!

Every child and family I talked to all had something in common, they want us to bring the LEGO Experience Tour back to the Prairie Air Show next year!

LEGO® Experience Tour in Indiana

Posted by Anastasia Bailoni, July 21, 2010 at 10:37AM

Three days, two cities, five team members, four tents, ten thousand lanyards, thousands upon thousands of LEGO bricks and hundreds of creative kids! This sums up our second weekend on the LEGO Experience Tour.

This was one of the most exciting weekends I have had in a while. We spent Friday and Saturday in Fort Wayne, Indiana at the Three Rivers Festival. We were set up right by fair rides. This meant our tents were filled with excited, enthusiastic kids and their families. I was surprised when chatting with the children that many of them had never built with LEGO bricks before.. This made my role a lot of fun because I was able to show them the joy of building. I grew up playing with LEGO bricks, and to be able to share this joy with new children excited me beyond belief. It was a lot of fun and very rewarding at the same time.

After two days in Fort Wayne we went to Indianapolis. Our next event was at the Indianapolis Zoo. We were right by the entrance, which was right by the seals and polar bears! I ran the family challenges for most of the day here. The different games I ran included tallest tower, favorite animal at the zoo and favorite food.

I was impressed by the creative and imaginative creations that the families came up with. I had a lot of fun at the zoo, when I had a break, I would glance over and watch the seal show and the polar bears jump into the water.. As the zoo became crowded it was awesome to see the kids run up to our event and tell us about the cool LEGO creations they had made here and at home.

The great part about this event is that no matter who came to visit us, they left with a huge smile on their face, bragging to their family and friends about how tall they built their tower and how cool their spaceship or animal was!

This weekend was non-stop and crazy all day long. I will be extremely happy if every weekend is exactly like this past weekend!!

LEGO® Experience Tour at Brookfield Zoo!

Posted by Alyson Euler, July 13, 2010 at 9:45AM

We had our first event at the Brookfield Zoo just outside of Chicago. Personally, I was really excited because it was not only the first event of the tour, but my first event ever. Overall, it was a really fun experience. Having spent a lot of time at the zoo as a kid, I was surprised at how crowded the zoo and our event site was! It was awesome to see kids running from across the lawn to come over and check out our site and play with all the LEGO bricks. There were multiple parents that came up to us saying things like "you have no idea how happy you made my child. This made his/her day" - which was extremely rewarding for me to hear. For the most part, the event went smoothly and I thought we did a great job working with the kids and working together as a team. The only major hitch we encountered was the "weather" that decided to show up right as we began to tear down the site. Besides that, the event was a lot of fun and I am really looking forward to the next 9 weeks!

LEGO® Experience Tour launch!

Posted by Mark Hansen, July 8, 2010 at 2:46PM

Today was a productive day. This morning we met our fellow team members and started reviewing all the paperwork for the LEGO® Experience Tour 2.0.

It was fun to hear and see the team members from both teams introduce themselves and to see the creations they made with the LEGO® bricks. We also heard a few funny facts...the best had to be the fear of sliced cheese, don't laugh, its more common than you think.

We were informed about different aspects of LEGO® and our tour. We were given facts and shown how the tour has evolved from the first LEGO® experience, we were given our tour schedule, layouts of what our setup would look like and we were explained what would be expected of us.

We had a few breaks and a great lunch. Now I understand what all the fuss is about when people talk about pizza in Chicago. Our free time allowed us to tour the Marketing Werks office and check out the awesome views. The breaks were also a good time to get to know the other team members on a one on one basis.

After all the tedious work of going through everything we called it a day and began a fun team building scavenger hunt. It was east versus west and I knew we would win. I am glad my team had a few people that knew their way around the city. Without a map I am very good at getting lost, so their knowledge of the city helped our team out immensely.

I had a great time running around getting to know the city and my teammates, at times they acted as tour guides and told me facts about the different places we passed. Our team worked well together, which makes me excited to see the many great things our east coast team will accomplish on the LEGO® Experience Tour 2.0.
